Infant/Young Child Mental Health

An infant mental health specialist is on staff to provide developmentally sensitive assessment and treatment services to children birth-6 years and their families. Interventions are relationship based and are offered at the agency and in the community.

Children’s Bureau has long been a leader in the community in supporting the needs of young children (ages birth to five) and their families. We believe that by addressing the mental and behavioral needs at a young age, we can prevent more serious problems from occurring later in life.

Healthy Start/Nurse Family Partnership

A Children’s Bureau Emotional Wellness Counselor provides therapy services for women and their families who are enrolled in Healthy Start New Orleans (HSNO) and Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) in Orleans Parish. Both HSNO and NFP provide services to women who are pregnant or parenting children under the age of two, and Children’s Bureau works with program staff to ensure that the emotional and mental health needs of program participants are met, with the end goal of promoting healthy parent-child relationships, and ultimately healthy families.

Quality Start

Children’s Bureau is providing mental health consultation services to child care centers in the New Orleans region as part of the Quality Start program, a State initiative to increase the quality of child care centers in Louisiana. Mental health consultants with specialized knowledge of young children work with child care centers to enhance their ability to contribute to the emotional, social and academic development of children in their care.
